New Zealand Biker dies in an accident near Birpara

Birpara, 3rd october, 2018 : In an unfortunate incident that occurred near Birpara under Alipurduar district of West Bengal, a tourist – biker from New Zealand died in road accident.On 3rd October, a group of four bikers consisting of 2 Indian citizen and 2 from New Zealand were heading towards Assam Kajiranga National Park via Birpara-Hasimara-Guwahati from Darjeeling. One of the kiwi biker collided with tata magic at about 6-7PM near Himalaya Hotel Birpara. The biker has been identified as Shawn Hanson Michial (50). He was a citizen of New Zealand.According to his friend Jef Evan, they were on a motorcycle tour to North-East India and heading towards Hasimara to stay in a hotel. While they reached Himalaya hotel, a Tata Magic was turning from a wrong side without any lights on. Shawn’s motorcycle collided with the tata magic. Though he was wearing all safety gears and helmet he was badly injured (internal injuries possibly). The driver of the vehicle fled from the spot.His friends with help of some locals immediately rushed to Birpara State General Hospital. He was alive that moment but due to poor facility in Birpara State General Hospital, he was immediately referred to Siliguri Hospital.The ambulance they were in was stuck at Birpara Railgate for atleast 20 mins as the train was passing. Jef said, the road here is terrible. Unfortunately Shawn was not responding to Jef so he decided to get Shawn back to Birpara hospital. Shawn died in the ambulance.Shawn’s body has been taken to Alipurduar hospital to preserve his body as Birpara hospital even lacks to store and preserve dead body.#BFC members helped them to accommodate in a hotel and to contact their family.
