7 dead, more than 35 injured after New Farakka Express derails near Rae Bareli, Uttar Pradesh.
Nine coaches including the locomotive engine of 14003 Malda Town – New Delhi New Farakka Express derailed near Harchandpur Railway Station on Lucknow-Charbagh-Rae Bareli Junction route in Uttar Pradesh at around 6 am on Wednesday. The train was running around 2 hours late when the incident happened.
At least 7 passengers including a child were declared dead on the spot whereas 35 of them were badly injured and were rushed to a nearby hospital immediately. Several passengers in the train are feared trapped.
The NDRF, doctors and medical team has been rushed at Harchandarpur railway station to conduct rescue operations and medical assistance. Senior officials including District magistrate,ADM, Superintendent of police are present on the spot as well.
Other trains on the same route has been halted as the rescue operation are going on. The union rail Mins. Piyush Goyal has announced ₹5 Lakh as a compensation for the family of deceased, ₹1 lakh for those with serious injuries and ₹50,000 for those with minor injuries.
The Uttar Pradesh CM expressed his condolences. He has also announced ₹2 lakh as a compensation for the family of the deceased and ₹50,000 for those who are seriously injured.
