Two Bangladeshi killed in BSF firing, one detained

Malda: Two Bangladeshi nationals were killed while one Bangladesh citizen was detained by BSF on Wednesday along the Indo-Bangladesh border near Kedaripara VPO of Vaidipur Gram Panchayat under Habibpur police station in Malda district.

Deceased Bangladeshi nationals have been identified as Sanjeev Kumar and Kamal Ali while the detained Bangladeshi youth is identified as Kabir Hasan (30). All of them hails from Navgaon district of Bangladesh.

According to the BSF sources, on wednesday night some cattle smugglers illegally entered the Indian side in Kedaripara area from Navgaon district of Bangladesh. Later on, all these smugglers started smuggling a large number of cattle to Bangladesh. The 159 Bn. BSF posted on duty saw the suspicious activity in the area and tried to stop them but they started attacking all the BSF jawans with brick, stone and sharp weapons. In retaliation, two cattle smugglers were killed in the firing and one smuggler detained by BSF.

The BSF handed over the detained smuggler and dead bodies of smugglers to the Habibpur police station. There has been no response from BSF regarding this incident.

It is to be noted that smuggling of cattles from border have been significantly increased due to dense fog. BSF have increased their patrolling in the border area after alerts from the intelligence department. District Superintendent of Police Alok Rajoria said that both the bodies have been sent for post-mortem. He said that the entire incident is being investigated.
