Siliguri, 13th Sept: A total of three people, including a teenager from Odlabari, were killed in a tragic road accident near Bengal Safari Park nearby Shalugara on Saturday night. Three more were injured in the accident. The father of the dead teenager among the injured is critical. Odlabari businessman Krishna Prasad (60), Vidya Prasad, Kalyan Dutt, his son Ishan Dutt (18), Vikram Bishwakarma and driver Arjun Prasad – a group of 6 people went to Deoghar in Jharkhand on Friday to pay special obeisance at Shivdham.
On the way back from Deoghar on Saturday, the car bearing vehicle registration number WB74 BC 0501 lost control and hit a large tree on the side of the road near Bengal Safari at around 12 midnight. After the accident, a jawan from the nearby army camp and a team of police from Bhaktinagar police station came forward to rescue them. Vidya Prasad died on the spot. The rest of the injured were taken out of the car and sent to a nearby hospital in Siliguri.
Ishan Dutt (18) and Krishna Prasad passed away later while treatment started. Kalyan Dutt is undergoing treatment at a nursing home in Siliguri. The rest of the people were mildly injured according to the latest reports.
Meanwhile, news of the tragic accident spread like wildfire in Odlabari since Sunday morning. Families of the victims, relatives and acquaintances reached Siliguri in a state of anxiety. The sudden death of Krishna Prasad and Vidya Prasad including a schoolboy Ishan Dutt, cast a shadow of mourning over Odlabari. The bodies of the three have been sent to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital for autopsy.
