Dhupguri: At least 32 people were injured in a head-on collision between a dumper and a bus on the national highway 27. Seven of the injured have been shifted to Jalpaiguri Super Specialty Hospital in critical condition. The incident took place on National Highway No. 27 in Dhupguri Lalskul area under Jalpaiguri district on Thursday evening.
According to the sources, more than 50 passangers were boarding the private bus named ‘Amarnath’ that was coming from Siliguri and destined towards Jaigaon. Allegedly, the dumper collided head to head with the bus while overtaking a car. The impact of the collision was so strong that the bus with the passengers, overturned and fell on the side of the road.
Locals and Dhupguri police, traffic guards and Dhupguri fire brigade reached the spot immediately and rescued the injured and took them to nearby Dhupguri hospital. Doctors at Dhupguri hospital later referred the seven of the injured to Jalpaiguri Super Specialty Hospital. Police seized both bus and dumper. There was widespread tension at the scene centering the accident.
