Jalpaiguri, 26 August: In a move to fight against illegal drug trafficking, Nagrakata Police seized huge quantity of illegal Cannabis (Ganja) from Nagrakata on Tuesday.
Acting upon source information, Nagrakata Police on Tuesday detained one truck from Eklavya More under Nagrakata PS jurisdiction in Jalpaiguri District of West Bengal. The truck was coming from Manipur-Nagaland border. A total of 320 Kgs of Ganja in 32 packets has been recovered which were kept hidden in a separate chamber of the vehicle. Its market value is said to be Rs 32 lakhs.
The accused truck driver namely Nikita Chhobe (21) and the co-driver, Bakika Chhobe (20) have been arrested. According to Block development officer Smrita Subba, who arrived at the scene, the market value of the seized Ganja is around Rs 32 lakhs.
According to police sources, packets of Ganja were hidden under a special chamber in the truck. They were planning to smuggle it from Nagaland to Bihar via Siliguri. However, due to the readiness of the Nagarkata police, the Ganja smugglers were not successful. The arrested youths were sent to Jalpaiguri court today.
It is the one of the biggest seizure for Nagrakata Police so far. Earlier, on July 29 and August 22, a large quantity of illegal liquor was seized during a checkpoint.
