Siliguri: Officials of Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) Siliguri foiled the plan of smugglers and makes biggest seizures of Gold ever. The DRI Siliguri seized 33 kilograms of illegal gold biscuits from Siliguri on Friday. The seized gold has estimated market value of over 17 crores. Four persons have been arrested by DRI for their involvement in the smuggling.
Acting on a intelligence inputs, the DRI officials intercepted a truck at Siliguri. Four peoples belonging from Rajasthan were in the truck. On intense interrogation, they finally confessed of smuggling illegal gold of foreign origin and carrying in their luggage.
Subsequently, 202 pieces of gold biscuits which were kept inside the luggage of the smugglers were recovered. They collectively weighed 33.532 kg and valued at ₹17.51 Crores. The freight truck with vehicle registration number RJ37 GA2373 was also seized. The gold was smuggled from Myanmar into India through border in Manipur via Siliguri and was to be delivered in Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan.
