Birpara, 22nd February: 5 killed, 1 injured in horrific collision between car-truck at Dimdima tea estate under Madarihat-Birpara block of Alipurduar district. The incident occurred near Dimdima graveyard, three kilometers from Birpara, on 21st February Friday at midnight.
A fast-moving car collided with the rear of a truck, killing five peoples on the spot. One other person who is seriously injured was brought to the nearby Birpara State General Hospital from where he was referred to Siliguri.
According to the sources, there were a total of six people in the car who were going to attend a wedding ceremony in Siliguri. On the way, their car collided with a truck killing five of them on the spot. The condition of another person is critical, and was rushed to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital in Siliguri.
The collision between the car-truck was so powerful that the tire and axle broke apart from the rear of the truck. Due to the impact of collision, the truck got off the road and hit the wall of graveyard 20 meters away from road.
The deceased have been identified as Ashraf Ali and Barun Sarkar, residents of Khudiram Palli in Birpara, Manoj Sah of Birbitty colony, Mithun Das and Sanjay Biswas of Shantipara colony. While seriously injured Shibu Mandal is a resident of Shantipara Colony. All people were between 30-35 years of age. On receiving the information about the accident, Birpara police reached the spot. The damaged vehicles was taken under their possession and the dead bodies were sent for autopsy. The driver of truck has been detained. Investigation is underway.
