All about Phulpati

Phulpati, Phoolpati or Fulpati is a major celebration occurring on the seventh day of Dashain (Dussehrah)

In the Nepali tradition, nine types of Phul (flower) and pati (leaves) are being brought into the puja room of the house with a celebration in the seventh day of Navaratri Puja. Therefore, the seventh day of Dashain (Vijaya Dashami) is also called Phulpati.

The nine ingredients mix of phulpati is called navapatriva. The Navapatriva consists of banana leaf (kera ko bot), pomegranate leaf (darim), rice stalk (dhan), turmeric leaf (haldi), manabriksha, ginger leaf, baelpatra, ashoka leaf, and jayanti leaf.

  • The Banana leaf (kera ko bot) represents Goddess Brahmini, who bestows peace.
  • Pomegranate leaf (darim) represents Goddess Rakta Dantika, who helps and blesses the worshipper.
  • Rice stalk (dhan) represents Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth.
  • Turmeric leaf (haldi) represents Goddess Durga, who puts end to obstacles.
  • Manabriksha represents Goddess Chamunda, who puts end to the evil.
  • The Ginger leaf (अदरक) represents Goddess Kalika (कालिका) who blesses mankind.
