Birpara, September 15: Illegal smugglers are on the rise in Madarihat-Birpara block area in Alipurduar district. The administration is actively conducting raids.
Meanwhile, In a joint operation of Dalgaon Range forest workers seized six teak logs from Dalmore Garobasti area under Birpara Police Station jurisdiction.
Dalgaon Range Officer Dorje Sherpa said that the seized 6 teak logs measures about 48 CFTs and has a market value of one lakh fifty thousand rupees. Dalgaon Range forest workers also seized the bolero vehicle registration number WB64 D1634 which was smuggling timbers. However, no arrests have been done. We will catch the other fugitives soon. Legal action will be taken against the smugglers as per the specified section.
Adding, “Similar campaigns will be carried out by the Forest Department to stop such illegal activities” said Dalgaon Range Officer Dorje Sherpa said. Environmentalists have also expressed happiness over the proper work of Dalgaon Range and Birpara Police in the forest conservation work.
