Jalpaiguri, 13th Sept: Nagrakata Police on Sunday, seized huge quantity of illegal Cannabis (Ganja) from Nagrakata under Jalpaiguri district of West Bengal.
After receiving secret information from intelligence, Nagarakata Police recovered a large quantity of cannabis from a freight truck bearing vehicle registration number WB 03 C7786 at Eklabya more in Nagarakata on Sunday afternoon. A total of 280 kg of cannabis comprising of 14 packets were kept hidden in a specialised chamber in the vehicle. The estimated market price of the seized cannabis is around 33 lakh rupees.
The accused driver of the vehicle namely Raj Pal was arrested along with the seizure, said Nagrakata BDO Smrita Subba.
According to the police, the vehicle was coming from Tripura. Smugglers were planing to illegally transport it to Bihar via Siliguri through Dooars route.
However, due to the readiness of the Nagarkata police, the Ganja smugglers were not successful. The police caught them at Eklabya more in Nagarakata. The arrested youths were sent to Jalpaiguri court today. BDO Smrita Subba, OC Sanju Barman and other police officers were present in the operation.
It is the one of the biggest seizure for Nagrakata Police so far. Earlier on August 26, 320 kg of cannabis was seized at the same place. On August 22 and July 29, large quantity of illegal liquor was seized during a checkpoint.
