Birpara, 13th July: Acting on basis of specific information, Birpara Police led by Palzor Bhutia arrested a youth with a large quantity of sedative tablets.
On Monday, Birpara police raided Gumba line area of Bandapani, a closed tea garden under Birpara police station in Alipurduar district of West Bengal and arrested one Shivraj Tamang, S/o Tikhe Tamang with 14,640 sedative tablets. The accused was selling/storing the sedative tablets without proper license.
Birpara Police Station OC Palzar Bhutia said, “A case has been filed against accused under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act.” The accused will be taken to the ACJM court in Alipurduar on Tuesday.

Birpara Police Station OC Palzar Bhutia said that similar campaigns would be carried out against illegal drug peddlers.
It should be noted that Birpara and adjoining areas neighboring to Bhutan has become a hub for illegal drugs, illegal arms, timber smugglers and various smugglers.
